The Afi Glow burns with the spirit of Niue’s Toume the traditional torch once carried by Maui to bring fire from depths of Fonua Galo (Hidden land) to the people of Niue. This was also once carried by fishermen across the dark ocean. Made from dried coconut seeds and flower pods, the Toume crackled like embers against the night, guiding vaka (canoes) as they hunted and fished beneath the stars. Its fire wasn’t just light it was life, courage, and connection between man and sea.
